Bring back the psychedelic '60s with this groovy tie-dye kit. Find a T-shirt or some old jeans and embellish them with bold splashes and feathery, rainbow swirls of color. This kit includes premeasured fuchsia, yellow, and turquoise dyes in three no-mess applicator bottles, rubber gloves, a bag of soda ash (a dye fixer), a handful of rubber bands for tying, and illustrated comic-book-style instructions that include descriptions of four tie-dye pattern techniques. All you'll need is warm water to mix with the dye, some fabric or clothing, and a bucket or a sink containing 2 gallons of water. The garment must soak in the soda ash for 20 minutes before you apply the dye. After you're done, set the garment aside for 24 hours before rinsing, washing, and drying it. --Kathryn Gustafson
